How Kendrick Lamar Turned A "Wacced Out Mural" Into A "Cultural Monument" Is something to be studied. Something that was done intentionally towards him as a form of disrespect. He managed to absorb A negative gesture & return with a powerful message & understanding that made the entire culture pay attention. A statement so profound that it sent a shockwave through the atmosphere & Shook The Foundation of both the "Culture" & The Entertainment Industry.
To do a recap on all the event's that made this moment possible would take forever. So I'll just start with where we are at. At this point everyone that claims to be an " Indigenous Citizen Of Hip Hop " are asking themselves do I really love this or am I just a fan. Kendrick's response to an attack on his character in art form. Proved that you have to have tough skin when faced with hate, & handle it in a way that everyone understands not to "Play With God's Child". From the time the song started. to the time that it ends. Kendrick handed out direct energy for everyone that "Hate" him. While at the same time taught everyone that "Loves" him how to handle the haters. How can anyone that claim to love "Hip Hop" fix their minds to even think to say "GNX IS TRASH" ? when you have a song like "WOM" as the intro. This is the song where "Kendrick Lamar" introduced the world to "K Dot 2.0". I could go on & on about the Jewels dropped within this song alone, but I am more focused on the impact . It doesn't matter if your "Team K Dot" or an "OVHOE" . Right now we are all asking ourselves 2 questions. WTF Happened ? & WTF Is Next ? . Well let me try to make some sense of both.
WTF HAPPENED ?
What happened was . Drake and his fans just realized that they may or may not be as "Hip Hop" as the thought they were. So as a result to the outcome of the "Rap Crucifixion of Drake". They started spinning narratives & Spewing hate for Kendrick Lamar wherever they found necessary. To the point where it became popular to disrespect him in the worst way's possible. Internet Influencers that where on the opposing side of the win. Took it upon themselves to be the torch barriers for the "Hate Train". Which inevitably motivated others to go and " Wacc Out" ( To Destroy with cover art meant To disrespect the original art piece. An act of revenge amongst "Graffiti Artist" Within the Hip Hop Culture Circa . 1970's ) murals dedicated to Kendricks legacy. His response to all of it only added more validity to his legacy.
WTF IS NEXT?
What's Next is left us to us. depending on what side of the fence you stand on. There are 2 clear choices that I can think of.
If you're a die hard Drake fan that is willing to except they fact that "He Is Just A Great Entertainer" , & also understand that " Rap Is An Actual Art To Be Taking Serious By Those That Actually Love The Art " you may consider yourself an "Indigenous Citizen of Hip Hop".
If you are celebrating Kendrick Lamar / Hip Hop & enjoying the victory lap of the battle. You need to know that "There's More Work To Be Done". Kendrick is only one man. In order for us to preserve the "Legacy of Hip Hop". We can no longer allow the "Entertainment Industry" to "Wacc Out Our Murals". We also must learn how to appreciate the culture we created and do what needs to be done to make sure that we control the narrative. If we don't go to battle with the attitudes that "We Are Gods" no matter what they might tell us, and know with all faith that " We Deserve it All ". Then "Hip Hop" is surely dead & we will "Let Kendrick Down" after all of his hard work. So Squabble Up !!! ...... #RealRap - Rico The "PLUG" -
