"Harriet Tubman: Through the Eyes of Children" is the musical soundtrack to the film, which is a multi-artistic collaboration between music, film, dance, visual art, and animation to tell the story of how Harriet Tubman inspired young black girls to use their voices to fight for justice and equality during the Breonna Taylor and George Floyd protests summer of 2020 in the middle of the Covid19 pandemic. Music composed and arranged by Marcus Shelby for his quintet featuring Tiffany Austin, film directed by Kevin D. Johnson Jr., produced by Cheo Tyehimba-Taylor, and executive produced by Eva Paterson. "Harriet Tubman: Through the Eyes of Children" also honors the 20th year anniversary of the Equal Justice Society, the powerful civil rights nonprofit led by Eva Paterson. The music was recorded and videotaped live without an audience at the Red Poppy Art House in San Francisco on August 15, 2020. The final selection "Black Suffrage Blues" was recorded by the Marcus Shelby Orchestra and comes from their earlier release titled "Harriet Tubman: Bound for the Promised Land".

Ironically, as the group became accomplished performing musicians, they would simultaneously experience decreasing satisfaction with their studio recordings, a reversed scenario of the group's most commercially successful years in the 1960s. Regardless, the live performances benefited from both old and new material and The Byrds certainly had a wealth of acoustic and electric material on which to develop their concert repertoire. Performing songs from throughout their wide ranging career, they were one of very few bands capable of forging both a spiritual and musical unity between the two decades. Their studio projects may have become less satisfying, but it mattered little to those attending their concerts as their most inspired and innovative moments now almost exclusively resulted on stage. They would experience wildly enthusiastic audiences nearly everywhere they played, especially in Europe where their popularity had never really waned.

Over 90, often furious, minutes onstage, all this pent-up music seemed to cascade out of him in a torrent of virtuoso riffing, cranking the crowd into a cult-like reverie from the off. Bathed in blue light, backed by enigmatic visuals of orbs and moons and bristling with wildman energy, he resembled a feral showman from some shadow Vegas.
